If you could get over those hideous Fourth of July hats than Friday’s spectacular was certainly pleasing on the eyes.
It was a perfect game to be an Angels fans with the hitting and the pitching clicking on the same night. Jered Weaver, who nearly pitched a no-hitter against the Dodgers last Saturday, finally got enough run support as the Angel batters collected thirteen hits and eight runs. Not bad at all.
While the victory is nice, it did come against Toronto, which really isn’t much of an MLB juggernaut to tell you the truth. Their starting pitcher A.J. Burnett has struggled in his past few outings so we’ll have to wait and see if Friday’s fireworks will be the trend or just a one-time deal.
Now, the bests of the night…
Top 3 Angel performers
1) Garrett Anderson looks as if he is starting to have some success at the plate, as he hit his second home run of the week. Against the Blue Jays, GA went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Hopefully, he can keep it up.
2) Jered Weaver continued his dominance on the mound, but this time he got the victory. He pitched 7.1 innings and allowed just 2 earned runs on six strikeouts.
3) Howie Kendrick is another hitter that looks to be getting hot at the right time, as he had 3 RBIs on a hit and a double.
Angels Jeff Weaver of the Day (Note: JTD denotes the Angel that played the poorest): All the starters got a hit but Jeff Mathis’s 1 for 4 performance just proves that Mike Napoli is the better option at catcher.
Play of the Game: Howie Kendrick’s RBI double in the bottom of the second gave the Halos a 2-0 lead and good start to the ballgame.
What to look for next game: The pitching matchup should be sensational tomorrow night with the aces John Lackey of the Angels against Roy Halladay of the Blue Jays.
Game is Saturday @ 6:00 PM (FSN).
