K-Rod Apparently Now Flexible

Are teams losing interest in signing Rodriguez to a five year deal? For some time now, the assumption in most baseball circles has been that Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez would be seeking the richest contract ever given to a reliever during his upcoming free agency this winter. His agent, Paul Kinzer, even made several comments indicating a target of five years and $75 million. With such strong contract demands, many felt that the Angels would not be looking to bring back the record setting .

But as of last Thursday, Kinzer’s tune may have changed. According to ESPN.com, Kinzer told a New York radio station that Rodriguez was willing to be “flexible” and “creative” in his contract demands.

It sounds like the idea of committing five years and that much money to a closer was not well received when Kinzer started talking to general managers. If Kinzer does indeed bring down Rodrguez’s asking price to a more respectable level, the Angels might in fact seriously investigate bringing back the single season saves leader.
