That other guy is third baseman Casey Blake who is expected to agree on a three-year deal worth a reported $17 million. An announcement is expected later today.
Blake had been seeking a three-year deal but only got a two-year offer plus an option from the Minnesota Twins. Therefore, once the Dodgers offered a guaranteed third year, they became the frontrunners. Many consider the length of the deal a risk considering his age, 35, but it seems as if the Dodgers are sold on Blake’s intangibles and character.
In addition to Blake, MLB.com is reporting that the Dodgers have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran infielder Mark Loretta, a two-time All-Star who has the ability to play numerous infield positions.
