Not only is this a great bargain for the Angels, it’s a great signing by GM Tony Reagins. Abreu’s bat will slide nicely into the #3 slot in the Halos’ order, and his career .405 OBP will look very good in Anaheim, especially in front of Vlad Guererro.
With the addition of Abreu, who turns 35 next month, the Angels will probably start Bobby at DH, Guerrero in right field, Hunter in center field and Rivera in left field, which begs the question – what next?
Last week, GM Tony Reagins had said that the Angels were committed to “playing the kids”, and that there would probably no more acquisitions, which led many people to believe that Chone Figgins would move to left field and uber-prospect Brandon Wood would finally get his shot at third base.
With the outfield now full, the Angels will either have to make a trade in the next couple of days, or they’ll once again shove Wood down to AAA and waste his power bat.
So while the signing of Abreu is a great addition for the Angels, I have to assume that there’s another move coming to the Angels’ roster.
