While Abreu may not be the “big bat” many Angel fans (including this one) want, he’s definitely a legitimate hitter that would solidify the top of the Angels’ batting order. Abreu’s career line is .300/.405/.498/.903, including last year’s .296/.371/.471 with 20 homers, 100 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.
The Angels will probably be best served by having Abreu DH as many games as possible, since he’s a fairly below average fielder (by most measurements out there). The plan is probably to have Abreu split time with Vlad Guerrero in right field and at DH, with Juan Rivera becoming the full-time left fielder.
Stay tuned for more details as this story unfolds.
