Torii Hunter’s Rehab Delayed

by Los Angeles Angels

torii48While Vladimir Guerrero may be back in the lineup for the Angels, it may take Torii Hunter a little longer to join his counterpart in the heart of the batting order, as strength tests yesterday revealed that the area around his injury is not strong enough to allow him to begin playing again.

LA Times: Torii Hunter’s hopes of doing his minor league rehabilitation assignment in his home state of Arkansas this weekend are fading.

The center fielder, sidelined since July 8 because of a strained adductor muscle on his right side, ran the bases at about 90% and took batting and fielding practice Wednesday.

But Hunter said he “failed” a strength test after his workout and he will not be able to begin playing Friday, the day the Angels’ double-A team in Little Rock, Ark., begins a four-game home series.

While it’s disappointing that Hunter won’t be able to fully resume baseball activities just yet, it’s important to note that he didn’t experience a setback on Wednesday. He didn’t re-injury anything, but instead, was not fully healed to start playing again. A setback would have caused him to wait another week or possibly even two, but in this case, he should be able to play later in the weekend series.
