Into the Lion’s Den: Dodgers Take Opener vs. Giants

by Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers Giants BaseballAfter struggling in the last two weeks, amassing a 5-10 record during that stretch, fans were biting their fingers at the idea of dropping the series against the Hated Ones.  Hiroki Kuroda and Matt Kemp decided to start things on the right note though, as the two combined to create a 4-2 victory over San Francisco.  Kuroda pitched six-and-a-third innings of one-run ball, the only run coming from a Travis Ishikawa-homer.  While the Dodgers struggled early to touch up no-hit wonder Johnathan Sanchez, they found a perfect opportunity with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and only one out.  Kemp delivered, stroking a line-drive up into the left-field corner to plate all three runners.  Mark Loretta drove him home on a single, and after just two at-bats, a Giant 1-0 lead became an inescapable 4-1 Dodger advantage.

The story of the day was the treatment of Manny Ramirez.  San Franciscans arrived in droves to boo and heckle the left-fielder.  Some wore wigs and pregnancy bellies, others held up signs, and many led and participated in derogatory chants.  Giant fans are relishing in their “what goes around, come around” opportunity after Angelinos battered the City by the Bay and their unwavering support of Barry Bonds.

Jonathan Broxton did little to ease the minds of people worried he hasn’t recovered from his toe injury.  He gave up a home run and a single before Juan Castro made a diving stop to end the ninth and seal the victory….  Orlando Hudson had to be replaced after he felt pain in his groin area.  He will be day-to-day….  Chad Billingsley was scratched from his Wednesday start after throwing on the mound.  There’s been no decision as to who will start….  Lost in the victory was the continuing trend of not scoring runners.  The Dodgers had two on and no out in the top of the ninth after Juan Pierre and Rafael Furcal laced back-to-back singles, but a botched double-steal left it at a runner on third and one out.  With the infield in, Russell Martin grounded out, and Andre Ethier flew out to end the inning.  LA was just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Manny deserves everything that comes to him up there. For the most part, he’s been let off the hook by baseball fans and has hardly been booed anywhere. Compared to Bonds, Manny has gotten away with everything in the court of public opinion.

If you wanna heckle manny its no problem at your stadium. You don’t come into chaves ravine and just act like its okay to cause a ruckas
