UCLA Schedule Makers Are Quite Clever

by UCLA

BeatSC+047So, with the UCLA men’s basketball team playing Pepperdine tonight at Pauley Pavillion, it would seem logical for the administration to schedule the annual “Beat SC” football bonfire for another date as not to conflict with the hoops contest. (Yes, I do realize that a Beat SC bonfire is oxymoronic.) But sadly, it doesn’t seem to be happening that way according to Bruins Nation.com:

The “planners” at UCLA scheduled our Beat $C* bonfire during tonight’s Ben Ball. According to the “What’s Bruin Blog” from the official site linked below, it is scheduled for tonight at 9:30 pm PST. Just a slight problem with that “scheduling.” The basketball game against Pepperdine tips off at 8:06 pm PST. Seriously who did this scheduling? Did that person have any kind of common sense? Heck of a job guys. You completely let down our football program by failing to generate any kind of interest around senior day (as evidenced by the joke attendance figures over the weekend). Can’t get scheduling of huge tourney games of non-revenue sports program right. And, now you pull this garbage. It’s like these guys are working OT to gin up bad karma for this weekend. The incompetency is beyond surreal. GO BRUINS

I understand that there may be a conflict with Thanksgiving Break coming later in the week, but in all seriousness, couldn’t they have just rescheduled the rally for another time? Wouldn’t 10:00 PM PST work just as easily? Wouldn’t Tuesday evening work as well too? I can come up with at least a dozen scenarios better than this one. But I probably shouldn’t be so critical anyway. After all, I’m just a silly little $C student that needs to realize that “UCLA is one of the finest academic institutions in all of the land”…yada, yada, yada…

That was ridiculous, but then again, UCLA is a football school now

How strong is this argument: "We rule because we, with our basically unlimited funding, are almost as good as you, and your basically zero funding."

But Joey, I agree...boneheaded scheduling. The perfect example of administrators thinking their particular program is the most important thing on earth and everyone else will just adjust.

I'm surprised any Bruin still feels like they can fall back on the old "finest academic institutions in the land" argument. SC is breathing down their necks in the US news rankings and gaining virtually every year and they are dealing with staff cuts, tuition hikes, and state-mandated furloughs for staff that caused their kids to riot last week. It's not their fault, but UCLA just can't claim outright superiority in academics anymore.

Yes... you are just a silly little SC student
