Kyle,

At the risk of injecting politics into this but hoping to revive this thread, what do you expect form a coterie of doctrinaire liberals who supposedly espouse free speech until it runs athwart their sensitivities.

I graduated from UCLA in '68 and dislike USC but do NOT harbor any of the unbridled enmity they possess over at BN. It's a college rivalry, fercrissakes, and there are many, many fine graduates from both schools.

What I find almost shocking is that the vitriolic hatred and lack of tolerance over at BN is not confined to students, wing nut crazy UCLA fans, and new alums. Some of the older guys there -- guys who graduated in the 60's and 70s' -- are equally infected. This includes lawyers and professionals.

It is truly sad that the central location for UCLA Bruin fandom is occupied by such babies.

Tangentially, they are now screaming for the head of Rick Neuheisel (as am I) and I noted some rebukes to those who sought to defend him.

*sigh*

"Can't we all just get along?"

..I echo Jeff's and GoBruins' sentiments. I used to post enthusiastically over at Bruins Nation but hadn't been doing so recently. I returned a few months ago and was surprised at the level of vitriol -- especially surrounding SCs NCAA suspension, etc.

I *am* a UCLA grad and fan but it gets a little wearying reading the over-the-top and unhinged hatred they have for USC. I mean "bitter" rivalry is one thing; hateful obsession is quite another.

Then -- with the advent of the two stink bombs UCLA uncorked in their opener and last Saturday's loss to Stanford -- the mood over there has decidedly darkened. I made some normal, unexceptional posts about UCLA's distinct lack of offense and how eight years without a standout quarterback is trying on one's patience.

*Wham* Down the glory hole!

If you visit their threads you will note that others have suffered a similar fate. And, of course, Nestor holds forth explaining his application of the "rules".

Now I run a blog and maintain I can do whatever the hell I wish with commenters. Even if I don't like the guy's nick-name, he's history. But my venue is right wing conservative politics and not a major player on the blogosphere.

Bruins Nation, on the other hand, is *the* place to hang out (or so we were led to believe) and it is a very high profile "watering hole" for the Bruin faithful. As such, there should be something more than the capricious, male menstrual-cramp anger as the reason for deleting posts.

More than that, however, is the question of Nestor's 24/7 stewardship question of BN. From a post over at an SC fan site:

"Speaking of wasting taxpayers' money,

Does everyone here know that Murshed Zaheed, the "brains" behind BruinsNation, is the Director of Internet Communications at Harry Reid's office, and, as such, he is on the government payroll. The man posts six, seven times a day. Does he do so on government servers? While on the government dime? Hmmmm..."

(URL: http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/archives/2009/03/usc-v-ucla-cong.html)

Hope he *isn't doing this on the taxpayer's dime. It woudl surely be embarrassing if he got caught -- especially given the precarious position Harry Reid's in nowadays.

But..phooey! Let's face it; truth be told, my pride's been hurt because two comments I made never saw light of day. And maybe he *is* applying the rules uniformly. But, to be honest, with the recriminations and acrimony over there, I am just not interested in making the effort to participate any more.

If you find a decent blog of, by, and for Bruins, Jeff, let me know.

I am a UCLA graduate and I can confirm that BruinsNation is not about being a Bruin or Trojan or whatever, it is simply Nestor's propaganda to try to make every "Bruin" think the way he does, which frankly is embarrassing to most Bruins. Hopefully SB Nation and/or UCLA itself eventually take notice and put a stop to this embarrassing charade of a blog.

Yes Nestor is a jerk. My comments have been deleted simply because I had a difference of opinion with him and I am an UCLA alum. I hope that Bruins have another sports blog, where the blog management is a little more classy.

I need to however tell you this that Nestor and others like him do not represent the entire UCLA Bruins community. Infact, its a shame that people like this are spoiling the good sportsmanship between two storied rivals.

Joey, your right, but what were you thinking was going to happen? whats your point here? you called every UCLA fan an immature complainer after the got decimated. how could you possibly not think that bruins would be sore about that game? Would you want some to post that on Trojan Wire if the bruins had won? I think its pretty hasty and far too rash to say that Bruin Nation does not allow Trojan's to post on their site. They do but not when it's rubbing sandpaper on a brand new wound! I think you went too far with your extrapolation. In the end, remember it's a pro bruin website, thats why it's called bruin nation. It gives Pro Bruin News, just Like Trojan wire gives pro Trojan news.

Murshed Zaheed aka Nestor is a government employee and if you google his name you will find it is many believe he moderates the BN on our (fellow taxpayers) dime. I have been an SC fan my whole life, but before being subjected to the BN banhammer; I usually favored the bRUINS against OOC foes, and had great admiration for the Bball accomplishments. However, since reading the hate filled fan posts on BN have come to fully appreciate the fUCLA attitude and now embrace it.

Nestor and his ilk are the bane of sports commentary. I don't know why they bother with allowing comments at all when they edit out anything that doesn't echo their viewpoint. I can't stand to hear their negativism and stupidity any longer. I think it comes from Nestor (and many of his cronies) being involved in politics/lawyers. Now I have many friends who are are law/politics, but there is always the guy that is so extreme it makes you uncomfortable to be around. Their cause is righteous, they cannot allow any conflicting opinions.

As a UCLA alum, I understand that hating SC is supposed to be FUN and when they come to Pauley or the Rose Bowl, I hope we all have a good time yelling insults at each other. More people need to stand up to the jerks on both sides who take things too far.

Yea, I wrote a bit longer response that didn't get accepted, and I don't feel like writing it out again, but I will paraphrase.

Basically, its not a very fun site to visit, and the only reason I do is for news I might not otherwise get from major news sources.

The blog is bitter, facist, and a complete misrepresentation of the average hardcore bruin fan.

Bruins Nation is not a fun place to be, and I have a ton of fun on other blogs that have way worse teams than UCLA basketball or football.

UCLA fans deserve better, something more open and with more humility. Something where all opinions may be served. I was disgusted with the blanket statement that anyone would be banned following the recent USC-UCLA game for even attempting to look anyway but an extremist viewpoint at what USC did.

Hopefully, another UCLA blog on SBN can compete with them because I am simply not satisfied with the bitter and rude nature on that blog. I don't participate because I just do not want to engage this particular group of UCLA fans.
