Kings and Canucks Renew Their Heated Rivalry in Vancouver - The 110 Report - The 110 Report - A Los Angeles Sports Site

]]> What is it about the Canucks? Why is it that they’ve become the C-Word in Los Angeles? Is it the blue and green orca? The ridiculous “LOUUUUUUUUUU” chant? Or is it simply the fact that they deploy two Swedes that more closely resemble cyborgs than twins? Whatever it is about the Canucks, whenever the Kings are set to face the bunch from Vancouver, the blood starts to flow a little easier.

Since the Kings beat the Canucks handily late in the 2010 regular season on a Dustin Brown hat trick, in a game featuring a skirmish amongst those Canucks that always seem to get under your skin, like Kevin Bieksa and Alexandre Burrows, the Kings-Canucks rivalry has been rather enticing. Obviously the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs went a long way in cementing the rivalry, and rightfully so. But even beyond that, the regular season games have been lauded with drama, tactical play or controversy.

]]> With the All-Star game coming into the horizon, there is the ever so reward of getting voted in. Fans have that opportunity of voting online for who they think should compete among the greats in the National Hockey League. For Kings fans though, they didn’t have quite as many votes as they probably wanted for their All-Star.

This season Kings goalie Jonathan Quick is leading in shut outs with six, is fifth in the league in wins and fourth in saves with 942.  With a Kings team that has been struggling on offense, Quick has kept the team in the loop for the playoff race.

What’s sad though, is that with his stellar moves and saves, he was voted ninth on the All-Star ballot by fans this season. The fans around the NHL are not seeing Quick’s performance while keeping the lowest-scoring team above thin ice. Follow 110Report on TwitterThe season finale of HBO’s critically acclaimed documentary 24/7 Flyers and Rangers airs Thursday night, and as someone who follows the Kings, it allows for plenty of perspective when it comes to the NHL, the Flyers, Rangers and LA Kings.

Not an episode goes by without Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette talking up his players while being stern and aggressive(slapping Jaromír Jagr on the ass and yelling “you’re going to be the best damned Czech on the ice tonight!” comes to mind immediately). For the Rangers, head coach John Tortorella has yelled at his club for poor penalties, rallied them when they’ve been down, and even has shown a soft side for a handicapped child. So in watching the demeanor of the two head coaches with different, yet similar coaching styles, it becomes even more crystal clear that the Kings did the right thing in giving Terry Murray his walking papers and opting for Darryl Sutter. … [visit site to read more]
