Outside of that, it’s safe to say that UCLA got at least a little revenge for their 50-0 humiliation in football last November as Ben Howland’s team used a 22-4 run at the end of the first half to stun the partisan Trojan crowd of 8,474 into silence, sending them to the exits early in beating them 66-47.

I think it’s also safe to say that ‘SC could have used Miner, who scored 2,048 points in his three seasons as a Trojan and was dubbed “Baby Jordan” for his acrobatic dunks, on Sunday as guard Maurice Jones was the only Trojan who had more then ten points, scoring 13.

The Bruins, who improved to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-12 Conference, achieved their largest margin of victory at the Galen Center, and it was their biggest road win in the basketball version of the Crosstown Rivalry since 1999.

USC fell to 5-13 on the season and remains winless in the conference at 0-5. “They took it to us,” Trojan coach Kevin O’Neill said.

Unlike in football, where the Trojans have historically had the advantage and continue to dominate, the Bruins have the upper hand in basketball, beating ‘SC 129 times with the Trojans winning 104 of the contests between the two schools.

In fact, with 11 national championships as opposed to USC’s one Final Four appearance in 1954 (ironically, the same year that the Bruins won their only national title on the gridiron), UCLA hoops is everything that USC football is; every bit as traditional and every bit as successful.

In fact, it is interesting to note that the basketball series predates the football one by a year, as the first meeting between these two L.A. schools happened in February 1928 with a three game series; the Bruins lost the first game 45-35 but won the next two contests between the schools that season.

A few years later in 1932, USC went on an 11-year, 42-game winning streak against their Westwood counterparts, with quite a few of those games not being close as the Bruins couldn’t catch a break.  UCLA finally broke the streak in 1943, beating ‘SC 42-37 in the first of two final games of the season as for decades, the two teams would end the year against each other just like in football.

It held the NCAA record for one team beating another consecutively until 1980, and remains the third longest ever.

In 1948, a significant thing happened that changed the course of the Bruins – Trojans basketball rivalry forever: the greatest sports coach of all time, John Wooden, taking over the program at UCLA.

With only four games left before conference play, the USC Trojans Men’s Basketball team find themselves at 4-4. A .500 record isn’t bad at this point with tons of promise, but many questions have to be answered as issues continues to be  a problem. With a tough schedule, the Trojans have held their own against the likes of Nebraska, San Diego State and UNLV. Now while they have held their own there’s many mistakes that have cost them games that they could’ve won or should’ve won. What are the promises and issues that we see with this team? Well lets take a look at that:

Promise

The USC Trojans have shown tons of promise through out the season so far, including the upcoming of newcommers like Dwayne Deadmon, Alexis Moore, Aaron Fuller, and Byron Wesley, who have made an impact to help the team out, and that’s something fans can look forward too. This team will also be battle tested. Losses to San Deigo State and Nebraska as well as hanging with UNLV for most of the game will help make this team stronger and hungrier, and a upset over Kansas in their upcomming game will do nothing but BOOST the confidence of this group. … [visit site to read more]
